Learn how to create your own movie quiz to drive engagement on social media and traffic to your website as well as grow your email list.
This guide will cover how you can create two types of movie quizzes.
1. Movie Personality Quizzes I.E. "Which Character Are You?"
2. Movie Trivia Quizzes I.E. "How Much Do You Know About A Movie?"
Part 1: How to Make a Movie Personality Quiz
The title of a movie personality quiz should always be the same thing "Which (Character or Movie) Are You?"
So for example "Which Lord of The Rings Character Are You?" or "Which Lord of The Rings Movie Are You?" We've seen tremendous success with both of these types of titles for a long time now.
If you want to branch out you can make different movie quizzes for various genres, we've had movie studios make over 100 unique quizzes for every movie in their portfolio
In order to figure out which character or which movie someone is, you have to ask them questions. This is the part of quiz building that trips the most people up, so we actually made a list of quiz questions you can pull from so you don't have to come up with your own.
As a general rule you should have 7 questions in your quiz and the questions should work to figure out who the person taking the quiz is by asking personal questions about their preferences and life so you can provide an accurate quiz outcome for them.
The best type of question is a text question with image answers. This type of question is the easiest and most fun to engage with which is super important because quizzes are just about fun for the most part.
With interact quiz creator you can pull images directly from a free stock image website we integrate with and all of those images are royalty free and licensed for commercial use already so you don't have to worry about finding and using your own pictures in the quiz.
Creating Quiz Logic
The way personality quizzes work is that each question of your quiz has answers, each answer corellates to one or more of the quiz results (the personality types), and as someone goes through the quiz they are adding up corellations (which are like +1's) for the various results.
Whichever result ends up with the most corellations at the end of the quiz is the one that's shown as that person's outcome.
For more on this, we did a full piece on quiz logic that you can check out for all the details.
(Optional) Quiz Opt-In Form
Quizzes can be used for email list building, and if you do choose to do this you can expect roughly 50% of your quiz takers to opt-in for your email list.
If you run a newsletter on your movie blog or website you can use the quizzes you create to get your social media followers who might be taking your quiz to opt-in for your email list where they'll be much more engaged.
Once someone goes through the whole quiz and opts-in or skips to go to their result, you show them which personality type they are.
In these results you show people which movie character they are or which movie they are most like, and you can provide an image with a description for each of these.
I went into a lot of detail on writing quiz results that you can check out for more of the theory behind how to write them.
Part 2: How to Make a Movie Trivia Quiz
Movie trivia has been popular for a very long time, and is a staple on shows like Jeopardy. You can create your own movie trivia quiz using interact and use it to drive traffic to your website, increase social engagement, and grow your email list.
The ideas for movie trivia quizzes are based on whatever movie is your topic and the template for the title is "How Much Do You Know About (Movie Name)?"
For the questions of your trivia quiz you'll come up with factoids about the movie and see if people know the right answer. This is where you get to have fun and pull in all sorts of random knowledge about whatever movie you are talking about.
The hard part is coming up with the wrong answers for each question, one little hack for this is to come up with similar sounding things or if the correct answer is a person, place, thing, or idea, come up with alternate options for each as the wrong answers.
Showing the right answers
For each question on your movie trivia quiz you can show a screen that indicates whether the person got it right or wrong right after they answer the question. On these pages you can explain why the right answer is the correct one as well.
Quiz Opt-In Form (Optional)
Once again you can use your movie trivia quiz to build up your email list. This opt-in form shows up after the last question of the quiz but before the results are shown.
You can turn it on or off depending on what type of quiz you are making and where it's being shown.
You can show people their score along with an answer key for each result. We recommend segmenting out your quiz results so people don't all see the same thing and showing the full answer key so folks will know which questions they got right and wrong at a glance.
