That is technically true for most of the businesses in this report, but it does not fully explain why they have continued using Interact for more than three years. A lead magnet can be replaced, forgotten, or left behind when a marketing strategy changes.

We wanted to understand what makes quizzes more durable than that. So we looked at 30 active Interact customers that Interact identified as having been happy with the product for at least three years. The group includes coaches, practitioners, educators, stylists, ecommerce businesses, a sauna manufacturer, and one large energy company.

The clearest conclusion is that quizzes turn one-to-many attention into the beginning of a one-to-one customer path. They take people arriving from a website, Instagram account, email, or another broad channel and help each person find an answer that applies to them. At the same time, the business learns who that person is, what they need, and where they might go next.

Educator Forever starts with a question teachers already have: what comes after the classroom?

What we looked at

For each customer, we recorded the business type, the stated business goal of the quiz, the title, where the quiz is promoted, and the email or automation system used. We also grouped the quiz titles by the main question they appear to answer for the person taking them. That grouping required some judgment, so it is best read as a way to see the larger pattern rather than as a scientific classification.

This is a study of durable usage, not a conversion study. This research does not include lead volume, conversion rates, revenue, or results from a control group without a quiz. It cannot tell us exactly how much a quiz changed performance, but it can tell us what these businesses continue using quizzes for after the initial excitement has worn off.

Patterns across 30 long-term Interact customers

Pattern

Finding

What it suggests

Lead generation

27 of 30

The primary business objective is conversion

Website placement

29 of 30

The quiz becomes a standing part of the customer path

Instagram distribution

17 of 30

The quiz can bridge social attention to an owned channel

Named email, CRM, or automation tool

26 of 30

The quiz is designed to feed downstream follow-up

Expert- or practitioner-led

26 of 30

Quizzes are especially useful for packaging judgment and advice

Titles using ‘you’ or ‘your’

21 of 29

The experience is framed around personal relevance

Titles using ‘quiz’ or ‘assessment’

7 of 29

Customers usually lead with the answer, not the format

Lead generation is the business goal. Clarity is the audience value.

Twenty-seven of the 30 businesses identify lead generation as the goal, but ‘join my email list’ is not the promise their audiences see. A visitor is invited to discover a career type, identify a health challenge, understand a relationship pattern, find a personal style, or choose a product. The lead is created as part of giving the person that clarity.

This matters because a generic email form creates a fairly thin value exchange. The business asks for contact information, and the visitor is promised updates, tips, or a downloadable guide. A quiz gives the person a more immediate reason to participate because their answers influence what they receive.

The titles make this visible. Twenty-one of the 29 named quizzes use the word ‘you’ or ‘your,’ while only seven use the words ‘quiz’ or ‘assessment.’ The businesses are selling the answer to a question someone already has, not the fact that they built a quiz.

Advice With Erin organizes a broad career audience around a more specific career type.

The four questions these quizzes answer

We grouped each named quiz by the primary question suggested by its title. These quizzes give people language for something they may have felt but not yet been able to name.

The second category helps people make sense of a challenge. The Psych Doctor MD asks about someone’s biggest ADHD challenge, Dina Celina explores possible bloating root causes, and Michelle Shapiro asks whether someone is living in a highly sensitive body. The quiz organizes a broad, sometimes confusing experience into a smaller number of understandable patterns.

The third category moves people toward a decision. Educator Forever helps teachers identify their next career step beyond the classroom, Glow Pro Tans recommends a self-tanner match, and Redwood Outdoors helps shoppers find a sauna direction. In each case, the audience has several possible paths and wants help narrowing them down.

A quiz creates a stronger value exchange

Most email opt-ins ask the visitor to make a leap. They give the business their information now in exchange for the possibility of useful content later. A quiz brings more of the value into the interaction itself because the person can see that their answers are leading somewhere.

The exchange is also two-way. The person explains something about their goals, preferences, or challenges, and the business returns an interpretation. Unlike a static download, the quiz learns something back.

That is the more complete version of lead generation in this cohort. The business is not just collecting a name and email address. It is beginning the relationship with enough context to make the next step more relevant.

Cynthia Garcia promises a personalized plan in language that sounds like her brand.

Quizzes turn expertise into a self-service experience

By our classification, 26 of the 30 businesses are built around an expert, practitioner, educator, advisor, or creator. All 26 use the quiz for lead generation. That concentration is one of the strongest signals in the cohort.

These businesses are not only distributing information. They have spent years learning which questions to ask, which details matter, and how to recognize patterns in the answers. The quiz lets them turn a portion of that judgment into an experience someone can use without scheduling a conversation.

The Psych Doctor MD can help a visitor identify the ADHD challenge that feels most relevant to them. Advice With Erin can help someone find a career type, and Educator Forever can help a teacher see a possible direction outside the classroom. These experiences resemble the first few minutes of a conversation with the expert, where they listen, ask questions, and begin to narrow the path.

This also helps explain why creators and practitioners often get deeply involved in making their quizzes. Their expertise is not simply a collection of facts. It is the sequence of questions they ask, the distinctions they make, the patterns they notice, and the way they explain what those patterns mean.

A strong quiz can therefore feel more like the person behind the business than a generic automated funnel does. Cynthia Garcia’s ‘Get Your Personalized Hot AF Plan’ and The Sorority Nutritionist’s ‘Why Is Your Weight Loss a Hot Mess?’ are good examples. The language itself carries the creator’s personality and makes the automated experience feel connected to the larger brand.

The quiz does not replace the expert. It gives the audience a useful first interaction with how that expert thinks. By the time someone reaches the next email, service, program, or product, they already have a clearer sense of the expert’s perspective.

A quiz creates a lead with context

A standard signup form can tell a business someone’s name and email address. A quiz can also reveal what that person is interested in, what they are struggling with, what stage they are in, or which result best fits their answers. That context gives the next part of the customer experience a chance to be more relevant.

Twenty-six of the 30 customers use a named email, CRM, or automation tool. Kit appears eight times, Flodesk six times, Klaviyo four times, ActiveCampaign three times, Mailchimp and Zapier twice each, and GoHighLevel once. The presence of these systems suggests that the quiz information is intended to continue into follow-up, although we do not know exactly how every customer uses it.

The pattern suggests a simple exchange. The person gets an answer that helps them understand themselves or decide what comes next, while the business receives a lead with more context than an email form can provide. Both sides leave the interaction knowing more than they did at the beginning.

The result can continue into email follow-up allowing each lead to receive a more relevant path.

The distinction matters because all subscribers are not arriving for the same reason. One person may be ready to act, another may still be identifying the problem, and another may need a different service entirely. The quiz can make those differences visible at the point of signup.

This is why the quiz often sits at the beginning of the funnel rather than in the middle of it. It performs intake and interpretation before the business begins its normal follow-up. The rest of the marketing system can start with more useful information.

A personalized front door across website and social

Twenty-nine of the 30 customers list a website as a quiz placement, and 17 list Instagram. Sixteen use both a website and Instagram, while 18 use more than one distribution channel overall. The quiz is usually not a single social post or a temporary campaign.

The data does not show that quizzes create attention out of nowhere. Most of these businesses already have people finding them through a website, Instagram, email, or their reputation. The quiz makes that attention more actionable.

This is especially useful when one creator has a broad audience with several needs inside it. Everyone can begin with the same question, but the result can send each person toward a different piece of content, service, product, or follow-up. The quiz keeps the front door simple without forcing everyone through the same path.

Quizzes reduce choice friction

Choice can become a problem when a business has several products, services, or possible paths. The visitor may know that the brand can help, but still feel unsure about where to begin. A quiz turns that open-ended decision into a smaller sequence of questions.

The role is easy to see with Redwood Outdoors and Glow Pro Tans. A sauna buyer or self-tanner shopper may not understand every product difference, but they can answer questions about their own needs and preferences. The quiz translates those answers into a recommendation.

The same thing is happening in service businesses, even when there is no physical product. A career quiz, health assessment, style quiz, or relationship archetype quiz narrows a broad subject into a next step that feels manageable. For an ecommerce business, the quiz works like a personal shopper. For an expert-led business, it works more like an advisor.

Glow Pro Tans uses a self-tanner match to narrow a product choice.

Not every durable quiz has the same objective

Two customers in the cohort classify their use case as product recommendation, and one classifies it as audience engagement. Direct Energy asks how much someone knows about regulated natural gas, which gives the quiz more of an education and engagement role.

That example is useful because it shows the format can support a different surface-level goal. Still, the common mechanism remains interactive interpretation. The audience participates rather than simply reading, and the business creates a more active path through the information.

Direct Energy is the cohort’s one audience-engagement example, using a knowledge question as the premise.

Why these quizzes remain useful for years

The questions these quizzes answer are evergreen. New visitors will continue wondering about their career direction, personal style, relationship patterns, health concerns, readiness, or product fit. A quiz created several years ago can still be new to the person who discovers the business today.

The quiz also does not depend on the same person taking it repeatedly. Its value renews every time a new visitor arrives from search, social media, a recommendation, or an email. This is different from a piece of content that receives most of its attention when it is published and then slowly fades.

Once the quiz is connected to the website and email system, it keeps performing the same basic jobs. It asks questions, interprets answers, captures leads, and routes people toward a relevant result. The business can update the experience over time, but it does not need to rebuild the underlying path for every new visitor.

That helps explain why this cohort has remained happy with the product for at least three years. The quiz is not useful only because it was novel when it launched. It continues to address a recurring problem for every new person entering the audienc

The strongest quizzes do more than assign a label. They express the creator’s language, perspective, and guidance.

Where the pattern appears strongest

This group does not prove that quizzes only work for experts, or that every expert-led business needs one. It does show a strong concentration in businesses where an individual or a distinct point of view sits at the center. Twenty-six of the 30 companies fit our expert- or practitioner-led classification.

These businesses tend to have one broad audience with several different needs inside it. The creator may publish content for everyone, but the right next step depends on the person. A quiz keeps the starting point simple while allowing the path to become more specific.

The pattern also appears strongest when the business has real judgment to encode. A generic set of questions can collect information, but a durable quiz reflects how the business sees the problem and what it recommends. That is what allows the experience to feel like part of the brand rather than another form.

What this report does not prove

This is a selected cohort of long-term, happy customers rather than a random sample of every Interact customer. The patterns can show us what durable usage looks like, but they cannot prove that any one pattern caused a customer to stay or feel satisfied.

This research also does not contain conversion rates, lead volume, attributed revenue, before-and-after results, or details about every email sequence. A listed integration suggests that information can continue downstream, but it does not prove how sophisticated each customer’s segmentation or automation is.

The real job of a business quiz

The most useful way to understand these quizzes is not as a collection of interactive content. They are a decision layer between a broad audience and the rest of the business. They help each person answer, ‘What does this mean for me?’ while helping the business decide, ‘What is the right next step for this person?’

The audience receives a personally relevant answer. The business receives a known lead with an understood need. The next step can then be clearer for both sides.

The clearest way to describe what these quizzes do is this: they let businesses make a broad audience feel individually understood. They turn expertise into a personalized front door that can guide people while the person behind the business is offline. For these 30 long-term customers, that has been a useful enough job to keep the product in place for at least three years.

Website or social attention becomes a personalized answer, then a known person, an understood need, and a clear next step.

We studied 30 businesses that have stayed happy Interact customers for at least three years.
