Do you have what it takes to start your own business?

Take this two-minute quiz to find out if you’re ready to quit your corporate 9-5 and start building the business of your dreams. On top of that, I’m going to give you my top three tips for start-up success!

Take The Quiz

What’s your BIG ‘why’ behind starting a business?

I’m passionate about the product or service I’m selling! I’ve experienced first hand just how helpful it can be, and I want to make other peoples’ lives that much easier.

My current job is the pits — BUT I’m determined to climb my way out! However challenging starting a business may be, there’s no chance it’s worse than slogging through stacks of paperwork all day… Right?

I have this awesome idea for a product or service that I’m super interested in developing. Everyone I’ve told my prospective product or service to thinks it’s sure to sell... I just need to pin down my ‘how’ and ‘when.’

How well do you know your ideal customer or client?

Sort of – I’ve got a pretty clear picture… I haven’t done a ton of demographic research, but I think they’ll like what I have to offer 🤔

Don’t I need to have a product or service before I can figure out who its ideal customer or client is?

Heck yeah – I’ve spent some long nights brainstorming exactly who might benefit from my product or service. Plus I know what price is perfect for their income bracket!

Your bestie calls you up and asks for an honest report on how you’re doing, what do you tell them?

I'm a swirl of positive energy! Things are really looking up – I've got an exciting new job opportunity working for the best boss ever (aka. myself).

Ugh... I'm burnt out as toast. Between my butt-busting boss and co-workers who can't pull their weight, I've had just about enough 🥵

I'm O.K. Not super good – but not super bad, either. I'm hoping a workplace switch up will give me the boost I need to rise above my current plateau.

Are you prepared to hit a roadblock *or six* while starting up your business?

Yeah, I understand that starting my own business won’t be a walk in the park. But I'm committed to my dream, and I'm ready to put in all the work it takes.

Honestly, I don’t see a lot of roadblocks coming my way… It should be a clear-cut path from selling my product or service to making mad moolah 💰

Give me all the failure! I see mistakes as opportunities to learn, and I know I've got a whole lot of learning to do before I see much success in business.

Quick-fire Q! What's the number one reason most new businesses fail?

They offer a product or service people don't want.

The economy is in shambles.

They don't invest in advertising their products or services.

A lack of experience – managerial or otherwise.

If you had 26 hours in the day and everyone else still had 24, what would you use the extra 2-hours for?

Unwinding like it's no one's biz. You could find me sipping a chilled glass of Pinot Grigio and watching Friends from start to finish!

I'd catch up on the voice of customer research I've been putting off... Between fine-tuning my products and services and launching my website, I'm a little strapped for time 😪

I'd read the business books that've been collecting dust on my shelf. I need to get real familiar with all that entrepreneurial lingo before I can start my business!

A certified business coach offers to answer just one of your questions, so what do you ask?

'How can I minimize my working time but maximize my profits? I need a new pair of Gucci sunglasses ASAP.'

'Where should I start? A new business is so much work, and I'm a little – O.K. a lot – overwhelmed.'

'How can I ensure that my product or service touches as many lives as possible? I'm ready to change the world!'

What scares the bejeebers out of you when it comes to starting your business?

Falling flat on my face... There's no way I can crawl back to my corporate job after flunking out of business!

Being misunderstood – I have a specific mission, and I don't want customers or clients to use my products or services without knowing what they're all about.

Not being accountable to anyone except myself. I'm used to working for a boss, so striking out on my own is going to be a big adjustment.

You’re... Not *Quite* Ready

Congrats on completing the Do you have what it takes to start your own business? quiz! According to your results, you might need to slow your roll and do a bit of research before striking out on your own...

You might have a promising idea and all the passion to back it up, but without some basic entrepreneurial know-how, your path to high profits might be riddled with roadblocks – but, no worries, I'm here to help!

Three easy tips to make your startup a smash hit success...

1. Content is key

Can you think of a successful business that doesn’t have an Instagram profile, Facebook page, or blog? Probably not.

Why, you might ask. Well, creating engaging, highly-shareable social media content is key to getting your brand out there. On top of that, it helps establish you as an expert in your field, so potential customers or clients feel that they can trust your products or services!

2. Get to work networking

This tip is an oldie but a goodie... Success isn’t about what you do as much as who you know. When you invest time not only in meeting entrepreneurs from your industry, but also going above and beyond to help them, you’re building a support system. While competition certainly has its place, camaraderie can go even further in ensuring your business stays afloat.

3. Refine your brand

You’re more likely to buy from a friend than a business, but, luckily, your brand can *and should* be both.

This comes down to a few things… First, make sure your product or service aligns with your message. On top of that, use consistent messaging across all social media platforms and that you know your ideal customer or client like the back of your hand! This’ll let them know that they mean more than you than just another sale.

How do I know? Well, I’ve been there, too.

After failing at a couple corporate jobs, I decided to dive in and start my very own business Organic Beauty, an eco-conscious makeup line. At first, I thought it’d be a walk in the park…

BUT it turned out there were a whole lot of unexpected roadblocks.

With time and dedication, I was able to launch my products, which were quickly picked-up by beauty retailers across the country. Now it’s your turn to experience that same level of success!
