Spiritual Cup
The fourth cup is the spiritual or energetic cup. This cup is associated with the spiritual and energetic bodies, intuition, and understanding what is beyond the physical plane. In dominant culture, we are often pressured to overlook our unique expression of the spiritual cup in service to intellectual or physical pursuits. The spiritual cup can be associated with mediumship, magick, prayer, intuition, and meditation.
People with overflowing spiritual cups are not necessarily more in touch with spirituality or energy than others. But, these people focus and are intentional around what exists beyond the physical realm, which may include magick, prayer, and connection to ancestors and other spirits. On the other hand, people with overflowing spiritual cups often experience sleep disruption because of dreams or empathetic mediumship if they do not have healthy energy boundaries. Sometimes an overflowing spiritual cup can also manifest in unhealthy ways like unrealistic idealism, spiritual bypassing, self-righteousness regarding certain spiritual practices, or denial of physical needs.
People with more depleted spiritual cups may avoid spiritual information and be afraid of things like ghosts or the occult. Often people with depleted spiritual cups experience superstition regarding rigid rules around religion and spirituality. Sometimes, spiritual burnout from religious trauma or cult enforcement of rigid belief systems can cause depleted spiritual cups, making us avoid spirituality for fear of getting trapped in coercive systems. Spiritually unsafe or coercive environments, where we do not experience consent or where our belief systems are scrutinized, can contribute to a depleted spiritual cup.
The spiritual cup is not associated with any particular astrological signs, but all signs may access spirit as a unifying and nourishing source.
At Fourth Cup Astrology, we believe the fourth, energetic cup is a powerful force for supporting and uniting communities for our highest good and most profound impact. We recognize that many spiritual practices are done unsafely, however, and many of us have experienced pressure to recite rigid belief systems or be exiled from our spiritual communities. That is not safe or acceptable.
At Fourth Cup, we believe that you know yourself best, and so if you decide to engage with your astrological natal chart, your wisdom about yourself is most important. Astrology is just a starting point for a conversation about who you uniquely are, including and beyond your four cups.
Astrological remediation and coaching, when done safely, can help align these energies for their healthiest expression.
