How to cultivate a winning mindset even when you are anxious and fearful?
Hey,Are you sick of feeling stressed and overwhelmed when things don’t go as per plan? In today’s demanding world we are constantly faced with challenges whether it’s running a business, meeting expectations, deadlines, customer satisfaction, competition. To top it all, life throws a curveball... so many factors - people, market, economy... causing worry, stress, overwhelm. These emotions produce nervous tensions in the body, You feel tired and then you start doubting yourself!
While our mind is clogged with these emotions, we don’t make good decisions, we tend to react to the situation and make impulsive decisions. A flight or fight response is triggered. It leads to conflicts, unhealthy relationships, lowers self esteem.
I sadly inherited the worrying habit from my mom. This often times left me fatigued and shook my confidence. Over the years, I have raised my awareness and learnt practices to understand and deal with these emotions. Now when I get anxious, I generally do some quick breathing exercises on the go before I respond. This practice has helped me remain calm in stressful situations and my confidence has skyrocketed too!
The magic mantra is to INTERDICT. Stop the impulsive reaction, the strategy is give some space between you and your thoughts. When space is given, control goes back to the rational brain, you may change your perspective, you make better decisions. When you stop reacting and start responding to situations, you gain control, you cultivate a winning mindset.
The #1 thing for you to do next when you are anxious is RELAX. Take a break for few minutes. Go for a walk, breath, meditate.. whatever relaxes you. Come back and look at the situation from a fresh perspective and then respond.
Viktor Frankl, in his book, Man’s Search for Meaning, on leading a more meaningful life wrote “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
So, What technique are you using to relax and give space?
