Begin by asking yourself these questions:
If you had no hindrances, what type of life would bring you fulfillment?
Who would be your motivation to live that way?
A family member, community, higher power or yourself?
Are they a strong enough motivator for you to do what it would take to make changes in your life to achieve this?
Now do a personal inventory and identify what is holding you back?
If you had a bag for your baggage, limitations, expectations, etc, what would be in it?
Are these limitations crippling or can they be overcome with some strategy, strength, and perseverance?
The most effective ways to stay on course, remain motivated, and reach your goals is to tell them to a friend, group or even better a like-minded community. When we write our goals down and speak them to others, we are accountable to them being accomplished.
Find someone to share your goals with.
Ask for their accountability on your journey.
