How much is Diet Culture affecting you?
Dieting and Eating Disorder recovery are diametrically opposed. We are all vulnerable to Diet Culture’s messages and have likely at some point believed them. To recover fully and live at peace with food, our bodies and ourselves we need to recognize and reject all forms of Diet Culture. Rejecting Diet Culture is the first step towards once again becoming an Intuitive Eater.Diet Culture is a system of beliefs that values the Thin Ideal and the appearance of health above all else. When we recover from an Eating Disorder inside of a Diet Culture we might inadvertently be internalizing some of its messages. We can detect the influence of Diet Culture by examining our thoughts. What do we believe about health, thinness, our bodies and our food?
