Okay, so your website isn't performing that great. That's okay; everyone starts somewhere! Knowing this just creates an opportunity for a new website or a website redesign. Online marketing changes fast! It's hard to keep up, but you can implement some very specific things immediately to enhance your web presence and connect more effectively with your ideal customers.
Here is a checklist to work on first:
Create a strong brand. This means consistent colors, fonts and style of imagery whenever you create advertising for your business.
Create a consistent message. How do you help your audience? Come up with 1 phrase or 3 words that anchor what you do. That needs to be the consistent theme in your website and advertising.
Speak to your customer. I challenge you to write down 5 specific problems that your audience faces. Then, write out your services as the answer to that problem. Now, revisit your text and rewrite it from the angle of the problems you can solve. Make it about your client. Not about you.
Keep your pages short and sweet. Content should be roughly 350-750 words and should speak to how your services can answer the problem your clients have.
Include strong calls to action in your website to help guide your visitor to the information they most need next in order to work their way towards hiring you.
Create a compelling freebie. This is a free way for visitors to experience what you have to offer and get a taste of your work. Trade it for an email address so you can grow your email list.
Don't forget to ask for the sale!

Way to go! You're already ahead of the curve with your website design. I bet you land plenty of sales and informational meetings! Don't stop now! There is always room for improvement, right?
Here is the checklist I would encourage you to start with:
Make sure your branding is consistent across all of your print & digital marketing. This means consistent colors, fonts and style of imagery. Go ahead and implement that in your social profiles, your email signature, your invoices ... pretty much anywhere your brand exists!
Amplify your message. Clients should understand what you do and when they or someone they know need your type of services, they should be able to quickly say, "I know exactly who you should call!" Become the go to person for area of expertise.
Question your content. Make sure your content is answering the needs of your audience. I challenge you to write down 5 specific problems that your audience faces. Then, revisit your services as the answer to that problem. is your content addressing those problems? If not, rewrite those service pages from the angle of the problems you can solve. Make it about your client. Not about you.
Utilize SEO (search engine optimization). Start your blog posts or page content with a quick google search for the topic you're covering. Get some ideas on what phrases or keywords someone might search and then use those in your titles, subtitles and within your content. Bonus points for adding the to your image alt tags as well!
Be a guide for your website visitors. People won't automatically understand what you do and how to work with you. You need to be specific for them on how you can help and how they can work with you. Guide them into a funnel of freebie offers, low priced options and calls to action to work with you. Map it out across your website.
Set up your freebie opt in. If you haven't already done so, craft a compelling free way for visitors to experience what you have to offer and get a taste of your work. Test it out on your website and if it isn't converting, try another one or reformat your content to be more specific to answer a question your clients have.
Not sure how to focus in on all these pieces? We're here to help! You should be super proud that you have a live, converting website. If you're ready to take it up a notch ...
Well, well, well. You're pretty much an expert when it comes to your website. Good for you! You took the time and diligence to do your homework and build things the right way up front. It's important to stay ahead of the curve so that you can continue to grow your business online. Take a moment to look at how far you've come and celebrate your success!
If you want to push your website even further, I'd suggest:
Review your content. Set up a calendar reminder to go through your website twice a year to make sure your content is still answering the needs of your audience. Offerings shift and so does your messaging from time to time. Don't let your website slip in its message as you evolve and grow.
Make sure everything is working properly. I've been to some amazing website that had areas that had broken over the years. It looks unprofessional and it's frustrating as a new user. So, while you're reviewing your content, double check that everything is in working order!
Add an opt in. Why not focus on more leads at this point? Create a secondary opt in to help drive even more individuals into your list.
Review your goals. Take a bit of time today to review your goals and decide where your website could be supporting you more. Do you need more content? Videos? A better opt in? Clearer guidance on your services? More impactful calls to action? There's always room to grow!
