You're creative and find meaning in painting, sculpture, dance, music, theater and more. At Alverno, you'll practice this ability by engaging with the arts in the broader context of culture and society. Perhaps you'll travel to Italy for a week to view famous works of art in person, or you'll explore different types of movement in an introductory dance course. The sky's the limit!
It's a big, big world, and you're fascinated by it. Through this Alverno ability, you'll come to understand and respect the ways in which we're all linked. Discover new cultures, explore literature and art from around the world, and learn how the global economy affects our daily lives.
Hey, social butterfly! Your strength is connecting to diverse groups of people. At Alverno, the social interaction ability means that you'll learn how to be an amazing team player and leader, building consensus and steering a group to a positive outcome. Our small class sizes mean you'll be able to build strong connections with your classmates and learn from each other. And the fact that we're a women's college means you'll be empowered to discover your full potential.
Whether it's texts, creative writing or your journal, you have big ideas and are driven to express them. Alverno's communication ability is woven through every class you take. Time and again, our students say we help them find their voice and build the confidence to speak up. It's a skill that will take you far at work and in life.
You have a strong sense of who you are and what you define as right and wrong. At Alverno, the valuing ability encourages you to explore the different values that guide others and influence decisions and cultural norms. You'll also keep exploring who you are and how to take responsibility for your choices. As you learn and grow, you'll feel right at home as a member of Alverno's supportive, inclusive and mission-driven campus community.
Odds are good that you stay informed of current events and volunteer. You care about your community and your world, and you know that it takes all of us to make them stronger. At Alverno, the effective citizenship ability means you'll build on these skills and grow as someone who can make a difference. Our annual Community Day unites the whole campus in a day of volunteering around the Milwaukee area, and our 30+ student organizations offer you a chance to grow as a leader.
Ms. Fix-It. You rise to the challenge of finding a solution. At Alverno, we're all about hands-on learning, so you'll get the chance to practice the problem solving ability solo and in groups. You'll also practice in the workplace. Every Alverno student completes one internship (some do two or three!), giving you the chance to apply what you're learning in the classroom to solving real-world problems. Go forth and fix it!
Your brain is a powerful force, and logic comes naturally to you. At Alverno, the analysis ability means growing as a critical and independent thinker. In class and in your internships (100% of students complete at least one internship), you'll show that you can bring experience, facts and knowledge together in order to make a solid decision. See you at the Supreme Court.
