WHEN I AM FACED WITH THE THOUGHT OF DECORATING AN ENTIRE ROOM. . .
I can get overwhelmed by all the choices out there.
It's a struggle, but I love the challenge and usually like the result.
Pinterest and mood boards are my two best friends. I am very confident in my abilities.
WHERE I DRAW MY INSPIRATION FROM. . .
Things jump out at me in stores, but then sometimes I don't know how to use them in my home.
I can find design inspiration anywhere and I keep my eyes open to the possibilities all day long.
I really try to take my lead from stores like Pottery Barn and Ballard Designs.
WHEN I SEE A DRESSER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. . .
Trash to treasure, Baby! I've got some extra Annie Sloan chalk paint just begging to be put to good use..
I whip out my measuring tape to make sure it fits the spot I am envisioning it in. I take it home, spray it with my paint sprayer, use vintage knobs from my stash and order Spoonflower paper to line the drawers with.
I might bring it home and try to paint it. This could be fun.
WHENEVER I NEED NEW CURTAINS. . .
I head to Ikea and pick out some great linen ones, then I bring them home and try to dye them the perfect shade of green.
I clip up some drop cloths and decide I really like them..
I search through several hundred patterns, colors and textures at Joanns and then pull out my sewing machine to make sure they are the perfect length and have that smocking at the top that I have always wanted.
YOU DON'T MEAN TO BRAG BUT YOU'RE KIND OF AN EXPERT WHEN IT COMES TO...
Styling for events and holidays.
Digging through things at garage sales and finding GREAT pieces!
You are just getting your toes wet in the world of DIY decor or maybe you just need some encouragement. You clearly have a desire to re-create beauty and not everyone has that in them. You don’t just want to hire everything out or buy everything things already finished. The process is intriguing to you and you want to learn more.
Because you love the thought of hand making and changing out decor in your home, I would suggest surrounding yourself with good design via design blogs and Pinterest. Take classes to improve your skills and don't be afraid to just try things. Good designers make mistakes and return items just like everyone else. It's all part of the design process. It's the ones who keep trying that end up getting really good at their trade!
Oh, and take pictures of your home, you will be amazed at how much a home improves even in one year when someone in it is committed to making it more beautiful.
