Workaholic Willow
Workaholic Winifred is a career girl. She works long hours and works hard. Winifred joins her colleagues for a drink after work, even if she doesn’t really fancy it, it’s the done thing and a way to celebrate deals of the day. She easily sinks one or two before trundling on home. When Winifred needs to work an extra hour or too at home she will happily settle down with her laptop and a glass of something special, the drink helps her relax so she can carry on working late into the evening whilst still having some ‘me’ time.
Whilst the general belief is it’s better to drink alcohol slow and steady in small quantities, rather than binge drinking all your units in one night, lets face it, most of the time it’s not just the one glass! It’s all too easy to have a second drink when we’re drinking at home. The first one always goes down far too easily, encouraging us to have more. If you were to add up the total number of units you consume over 7 days it’s likely to be more than the recommended 14 units; that’s just six 175ml glasses of wine, six pints of beer or 14 single measures of spirits. Have you added up how much you’re actually drinking on a week to week basis?
Here’s two things you can do to reduce your habit-drinking.1. Plan in a couple of alcohol free days. Check which days are going to be the easiest to do this and mark them in your diary so you are committed to them. Have your favourite alcohol free drink stashed in the fridge ready for when you get home so you can reach for it if you need to and enjoy it in your favourite glass the same way you would an alcoholic drink.
2. Have an excuse ready for not joining your work colleagues. “I’ve booked an extra gym class this week” or “I’m joining a friend for a swim”. As a longer term solution book a challenge you need to train for, you can still join your colleagues but it will give you the excuse to choose an alcohol free alternative.
