Congrats! Very few people get this result. You definitely some good reasons for considering staying in this job, BUT...it will be best to start thoughtfully plotting out a new move in the next 6-12 months. If you start connecting with the right people (using the right strategy) NOW, you will be able to wrack up multiple competitive offers as you get to *calmly* hold out until a dream opportunity comes your way.
Here are your next steps:#1. You've got time! It's time to have fun exploring your ideal vision for where to take your career next! Here's one fun way to gain clarity on what you want:This is one of my clients' favorite bonus exercises I assign to them! It's inspired by an exercise mentioned in Marie Forleo's book: "Everything is Figureoutable" (a book I recommend to everyone!).For 10 to 15 mins per day over the next week, open up a fresh new journal or a blank sheet of paper and write “Wouldn’t it be cool if…” right at the top. Really embrace that prompt, turning “Wouldn’t it be cool if…” over in your mind a few times before you begin journaling, finishing that thought until you feel complete, filling at least that entire first page with writing. As you write, free yourself from any compulsion to edit, censor, or re-read anything you write. This journaling exercise is for your eyes only. Just let it flow out in whatever way feels natural, writing your page for the day, then putting it away without analyzing or reviewing anything you wrote. Start with a fresh sheet of paper or new open space in your journal each day. Use this prompt every day for as many days as you need to until you feel clear and excited about what you want. It will likely be between at least 5-7 days to give yourself enough time to really give this exercise the depth and attention it deserves. After the week is up, notice the biggest themes and patterns that gave you the most energy to think about! If it's not initially clear how you can turn your dream into a sustainable career, reach out to me for a free career strategy session here. I can help you assess if and how it can be made possible.#2. Enjoy taking the next few months to reach out to people in roles and companies that truly fascinate you. Make connections, learn from them, and get their advice to A) confirm if their path is truly one you want to emulate, and B) get their mentorship on how you can put your best foot forward in the application process.Building this relationships months before you would even be interested in applying to a job opening at their company will:1. Take away all the neediness, weird vibes, and pushiness that often makes people squirm in networking! THIS IS THE CURE, MY FRIEND!2. *Dramatically* increase your likelihood of landing an interview - ultimately - the job offer. Let me tell you...building relationships and gaining mentorship from inside contacts is THE differentiator between people whose resume gets stuck at the bottom of the stack vs. those who have CHEERLEADERS within the org, making sure you get seen and celebrated in front of the hiring manager.Want to learn how to get in touch with career-changing contacts, and master the art of these networking conversations to reap legendary results? I'll teach you how in my signature 1:1 career coaching program, showing you how to master every aspect of your job hunt, so you can land better job offers, faster (not just now, but for every job transition you'll experience in the decades to come).#3. To get the most out of your remaining time in this job, think about the projects you want to wrap up and accomplishments you want to achieve before leaving. You also have the incredible opportunity to think of how your current role is uniquely preparing you for your next one. Think about what qualifications will best position you for the next role you're aspiring to, and get creative with how you can take on new responsibilities or propose new initiatives in your current role that will make you an attractive candidate for your next strategic move.Note:6-12 months will fly by faster than you think. Please do yourself a favor by making connections in your dream roles and companies today. If you get started now, you get to be what recruiters call a "passive candidate": someone who is content and performing well in their current job, and is willing to take time and consideration in considering their next move, only allowing themselves to get snatched up by the best companies for the most ideal opportunities. Why does this matter? As a passive candidate, you *AREN'T GOING INTO THE GROCERY STORE HUNGRY* (we all know we come out with oreos, cheese dip, and Ritz when that happens, instead of going in full and content - allowing you to stick to your best meal plan and budget). As a passive job seeker, you will have a peace and confidence about you that literally makes all the difference in your interviews, networking conversations, and negotiations. Why? Because the power ALWAYS belongs to the ones who are willing to walk away.Want to learn how to be the most attractive, compelling Want to discern what you're called to do AND learn how to be the most attractive, compelling candidate in nearly any applicant pool?
