You're a ... Learning Cultivator!
When learning is highly engaging you lavish in the experience. Inauthentic modes of learning are taxing for you. You are drawn to learning experiences that illuminate themes, inspiration, and new knowledge that links to the bigger picture. In essence, your learning journey is building to something bigger and when you get there you will know it. In the meantime, you recognize those learning experiences that catch your attention and tend to shrug off those that do not. You prefer teaching and learning that aligns with causes, advocacy, transformation, or innovation. As you acquire more understanding, you look forward to activities, projects, or research, which allow for discussion or hands on engagement.Often times your friends and classmates benefit from your insight and open mindedness. Some interpret your introspection as being disconnected or noncommittal to the assignments or tasks at hand. That’s not the case at all. You're sifting through learning and life experiences and searching for relevance to the greater needs in community, society, or globally. You need some strategies, which help you connect what you’re learning to the thematic connections and greater relevance to the future impact that you want to have.No sweat, there are ways to maintain engagement to coursework and connection to others while creating student success throughout the semester. And we're going to help you find those steps.Ready To Increase Your Engagement In Learning? Try These Steps…1. Switch up your note taking styles as needed. The same note taking style won't work for all courses or students. Depending on what you are learning, interchange your notes according to the class. For instance try Cornell Notes for thematic and inquiry based notes or graphic organizers for tracking connections and ideas. There are many more note styles than those. So make sure you have a few note strategies in your toolbox. 2. Jot your take aways. While listening to a lecture or reading, jot down the big ideas that come to mind. Later as the details come along, you can add those to the big ideas, so leave some room for those. 3. Recognize your habits and routines. Take a closer look at how you spend your time. What actions are you taking that are helpful, and what needs improving to meet the goals you have in mind? 4. Value others and yourself. Everyone has a unique skill set and talents. Take on the mantra: Each one teach one. Be gracious with each other. Also, be willing to share your advantages as well as learn from others. Finding the right partners in classmates, friends, staff, and community can boost your progress. How can we help?
