For some, this might mean meaningful experiences with friends and family, vacations and massages, or it may mean designer clothes, shoes, cars and a beautiful home. For others, it may mean spending emotionally, sometimes purchasing things you don’t need to fulfill a void in your life or soothe yourself in tough times. After all, what’s the point of working so hard if you can’t enjoy the fruits of your labor? Oftentimes, this lifestyle can be unsustainable. You may feel regret or guilt over certain purchases. Sometimes, Indulgers may also be spending to feel better or to keep up with others, and that’s when indulging may not always be the best way to go.Profit Path:Whenever you spend money, write it down, and then, next to it, write down what you were feeling before you spent and then how it made you feel after the purchase. See if there’s a pattern. (You may also use this 30-day money tracker we created for this task.) Also, before spending money on any big ticket or luxury items (meaning not necessities), check to see if it aligns with your core values first. As a Collector, your sense of security is closely tied to the size of your piggy bank, savings and/or investment accounts. You are very careful about the purchases you make, carefully weighing pros and cons of expenses, sometimes even when it comes to the essentials. You are prepared for the worst case scenario and others see you as responsible and dependable. Yet, oftentimes, the collector never truly feels satisfied with the wealth they have accumulated. When will you allow yourself to indulge in life’s pleasures without guilt? Collectors may also have a sizable savings account and you may enjoy seeing the money grow in that account. However, collectors are sometimes resistant and even fearful of investing their wealth. Ironically, this very mentality is holding you back from accumulating the wealth you truly deserve…Profit Path:If you’ve got your debts paid off and have at least 6-12 months of emergency savings, the next step for you is to start investing in a retirement account. Start by opening up a Roth (there are income limits, so check with your accountant to see if you qualify) or Traditional IRA (no income limits), and start adding to it until you’ve reach the max, which is $6000, if you’re under 50, and $7000, if you’re over 50. While tracking IS good and important to know what’s coming in and what’s going out, and I give you kudos for organization, be careful not to let it affect your emotions. Getting a high from more money in your account can be just as unhealthy as feeling depressed when your investments are down. Sometimes, it’s important to spend on some FUN! You deserve it. Profit Path:Try to not check your app or account for an entire week. Slowly move into just checking once a week, while you “balance your checkbook” or “reconcile your expenses.” Instead, start tracking when you receive abundance (of any kind) and your emotions when money is coming in and when it’s going out. You can also track positive things about yourself. Each day, write something positive about yourself in a notebook or by adding pieces of paper to a jar.
