You are a "Scrolling Suzie"
Don't worry. All of us a guilty (including myself) of waking up, grabbing our phone, and then spending the next 20 minutes getting lost in Instagram stories. It happens. Believe it or not, there are a lot of benefits to social media such as faster, easier communication, the ability to create and be part of a community and how can we forget all of that amazing knowledge at our fingertips. And while there are some amazing benefits, we want to make sure that we are able to control our relationship with "scrolling" so that we don't lose all that time freedom we are working so hard to create. Plus, let's face it, you don't want someone else controlling how you feel throughout your day right? (insert scrolling, comparing, anxiety, hours lost, etc). Acording to research by Global Web Index, people spend an average of 2 hours and 22 minutes per day on social media and messaging platforms. If you assume you get 8 hours of sleep that is 14% of your day. There is a better way. "Almost everything will work again if you unplug it. Including you"3 Quick Tips to Break the Scrolling Cycle and Become More Productive1) Time is your Most Valuable ResourceThink about what you would like to accomplish with the hours you have. What skills could you improve during this time instead? What books do you love? You could read 32,760 pages. What content could you curate? At the rate of 500 words per hour, you could write 546,000 words. What hobbies could use some attention? This is 1092 hours a year of doing your favorite things.2) Design your Future ActionsThis tip is probably the most talked-about but it works. Time block your day so you do not get distracted. Build-in breaks and rewards so you are excited about following it. Stop wasting time by deleting social media apps, closing tabs, etc. Focus on one thing at a time and make it impossible to multi-task. Use timers to help keep you on task. 3) Take a Social Media BreakAccess scrolling can lead to some serious consequences including anxiety, comparison, depression, etc. The list goes on.
