Hormone Harmony
Great job! It sounds like your diet and lifestyle habits are resulting in hormone balance!Keeping your hormones in balance results in optimal physical, mental, and emotional functioning. Keep up the great work! Here are 3 tips for maintaining hormone balance:1. Eat regularly throughout the day Eating regularly throughout the day keeps blood sugar levels stable and keeps your brain and stomach happy. Avoiding significant drops and spikes in insulin is key!Maintaining stable insulin levels results in overall better energy, mood, and reduces that hangry feeling. When we go without food for long periods of time our brain starts to think we're starving, and cortisol gets released as a stress response. Avoiding periods of prolonged 'starvation' (and low insulin) results in more stable hormone levels.Plan for either three large meals or three smaller meals with two snacks throughout the day. Remember balance is key in this equation! Opt for a healthy fat, complex carbohydrate, and lean protein in each meal and snack. 2. Minimize stress Stress plays such a huge role in our hormone health. In a stressed state the body releases cortisol and adrenaline into the blood stream, resulting in heightened awareness. When this occurs occasionally, it poses no threat to the body. However, when the body is in a constant state of stress and these hormones are regularly circulating, it can be problematic. Too much stress can lead to irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, decreased libido, mood swings, and irritability. Try meditation, adult coloring, or exercise for relaxation!3. Limit toxins Unfortunately, toxins are lurking in many common items that we’re using every day without knowing it. Toxins can interfere with estrogen levels in the body and lead to estrogen dominance. These toxins are known as xenoestrogens or estrogen-mimickers and are actually much more powerful than the natural estrogen the body produces. Estrogen dominance effects the way the body metabolizes sugar, utilizes and stores fat, and even effects our mood. Search the EWG Skin Deep database for clean personal care and beauty products (such as cosmetics), as many brands use these estrogen-mimicking chemicals: https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ .
