Need a boost Mama
It's ok, maybe you're new to this. Or maybe you have a hard time with changing your dietary habits before/during pregnancy. I'm here to help guide you in preparing for pregnancy or help you make the necessary changes, which will optimize the health of you and your baby.Your body's nutritional needs change when you are pregnant and all women planning on pregnancy can benefit from these changes before conceiving. Here are three tips to promote your health for pregnancy:1. IronIt's recommended women get 27mg of iron a day during pregnancy. Your body uses iron to make extra blood for your baby! Iron is found in animal products like: Poultry, fish and meat. It is also present in plant-based foods like beans, spinach, tofu and fortified cereals. However, plant based iron is not as bioavailable as the iron in animal products. What is bioavailability? It is the amount of the nutrient your body is able to digest, absorb and metabolize! This means that you would need to consume MORE of the food if it is less bioavailable. Thus, obtaining your iron needs from animal products will be easier.2. Vitamin CVitamin C helps your body absorb iron, so it is important to include vitamin C rich foods during your pregnancy, optimizing your intake of iron. It also plays a key role in developing your baby's bones and teeth. Its recommended that you get in 85mg a day.Vitamin C is found in fruits and vegetables like: Oranges or orange juice, strawberries, kiwi's, peppers, broccoli, brussels sprouts and potatoes.3. IodineRequirements increase substantially during pregnancy. Iodine is necessary in developing the fetal brain and nervous system. The recommendation for iodine is 220mcg-290mcg. Foods high in iodine are: Iodized salt, Cod, shrimp, tuna, eggs, lima beans, and dairy products."Who’s this health whiz with all the tips?"
