Result: Keep Going, Almost There!
Your Masterpiece will be in readers' hands SOON!You've put in the work and you have a solid draft. You're focused on sharing your work, getting a revision plan together and looking ahead for publishing options. You might be asking yourself, is my writing good enough? Will readers like it? Many writers stop here, because it's hard to share your work with the world.. But, KEEP GOING! Here are some quick tips that will make sure you don't get stuck in this important stage:1. Don't spin your wheels on endless edits. Take your manuscript as far as you can on your own, but stop once it feels like you're not making progress, and get ready to share! Writing may be a solitary experience, but you'll never know what readers will think of it until you share it. Successful writers don't write all by themselves...The idea of your opus getting written in a solitary cabin all by yourself is a MYTH! Look at the acknowledgments in any book. It takes a team to make a book great.2. Put it in the hands of Readers. Your friends and family will tell you your book is great. They're proud of you... but their feedback won't tell you if your book is ready. Instead, seek out readers in your genre (beta readers), or experienced writers (critique partners). Ask them to give you specific feedback and listen.Keep in mind that while it's important to get honest feedback, it can be soul-crushing to get a poorly delivered early critique and nobody needs this. If your book isn't where you want it to be the first time, keep trying. You’ve got this.3. Get PRO Feedback. Find an editor who’s passionate about your story and who knows your genre well, including expectations on word count, tropes, and trends in the industry, so that they can give you feedback that increases your chances of attracting the publishers or readers you want. Editing will likely be your biggest investment on your writing journey - but this investment will ensure readers will understand what you've spent all this time to say!4. Proofread. Some typos make it all the way to the printing press. This is just a fact of life. But catch as many as you can! I recommend doing at least one pass reading out loud to yourself (or having your computer or phone read it out loud to you). Listening to the words will help you catch errors that your brain corrects for you when you read. Happy Writing!I’m Suzy Vadori, and I'm thrilled to meet you! I'm an Author, Editor, and Book Coach.
