Sleep deprivation is no joke. (as you know)Being exhausted, just because you are a parent, doesn't have to be a thing. It isn't healthy for you or your little one. Why isn't sleep deprivation healthy? Sleep deprivation can:Reduce Cognitive Ability - your little one's learning may slow down and their attention, memory and decision-making can all be impacted. Affect Mood - children that are overtired tend to be crankier, appear more hyperactive and are less cooperative. Sleep deprived children can appear to have ADHD. Decrease Immunity - when we get less sleep than we need, our bodies have a harder time fighting off sickness. Other health effects can include higher levels of stress hormones; increased blood pressure and inflammation to name a few.Diminished Safety - sleep deprivation can cause impaired hand-eye coordination, which can affect your child's fine motor skills. Sleep deprived children can have delays in basic skills like crawling, walking, running, and climbing. I know that you don't want all that...we all want what's best for our kiddos! But if you are struggling with sleep, it can lead to overwhelm, confusion and just plain exhaustion, which can leave you feeling hopeless. That doesn't have to be the way! Start developing a plan to help your little one to be a better sleeper and then stick to that plan consistently while your child adjusts to your new routine and learns to settle to sleep independently.
