Rise to the OccasionPersephone is the Greek Goddess of Spring and the Queen of the Underworld. Persephone's story begins with her being a naive maiden. One day she was innocently picking flowers in the meadow when the earth suddenly cracked open. Hades, the God of the Underworld, saw the maiden and became immediately lovestruck (as often happens in Greek mythology). He abducted the goddess and took her to the Underworld to be his wife. Naturally, Persephone was not happy with this situation. After all, she lived a life of ease up here on earth.A deal was finally made between the gods that allowed Persephone to return to earth for six months out of the year to be with her mother, the other six months she would spend with her husband Hades in the Underworld. Now, you might think that Persephone just sulked around for the six months she needed to spend in the Underworld, bemoaning her misfortune. However, that was not the case. Persephone stopped playing the victim and grew into her role as Queen of the Underworld. She became a sovereign queen with much power. The tribe listened intently, eager for her wisdom. Soon after she left the village, buffalo arrived and sacrificed their lives to provide the tribe with food, clothing, and materials.
