The Hummingbird
You love to share how you feel and you're quite the conversationalist! You love to talk, write, and use words to express yourself. And that’s why you’re the Hummingbird. Don’t be fooled by your Songwriting Type. You’re not a gentle little bird like the Hummingbird may imply. You’re rather energetic and creative. And maybe you don’t know it but you needed to hear it. Especially today. Being the Hummingbird, there are some downfalls though. You tend to have trouble using your creativity to compose melodies. You may think that all of your songs sound the same. Or that writing lyrics come way easier than trying to write a tune. Or maybe you simply don't know how to turn your lyrics into melodies.. But you seem like the opposite! With such an imaginative personality and with such talent, you have the opportunity to shine brighter than the sun. You may just need a little push though. After working with many songwriters from all over the world, I’ve come to realize that the Hummingbird type of songwriter needs help with this huge problem: composing good melodies. This is one of the worst problems to have because it means you don’t get the chance to share your stories and feelings with the world through songwriting. You can’t share a song that doesn't have a nice tune to go with it!Let me give you a quick tip for this songwriting type: When you're trying to decide what the chorus melody will be, hit a high note you haven't hit in the verses or pre chorus. Why do this? Well, this tip was actually shared on Ryan Tedder's Monthly Course... Shhhh... The reason it's a good idea to do this is because when someone is listening to your song and they hear this new high note in the chorus, they immediately think, "Oh wow! I haven't heard this note before! It's new so something else new will probably come too. This is interesting. I will keep listening!" Maybe they don't say exactly that, but you get the point... :)Sounds simple but this one trick can shift your composing as a songwriter. And just like how this one method can make you a better songwriter, there's so many more tips you can use today to master melody writing...This is the reason I created my 12 Methods to Melody Mastery. It’s a simple walkthrough with 12 powerful methods to turn your lyrics into verses, choruses, create catchy melodies, and master melody writing so it becomes second nature (hence the name).
