Proofreading doesn't sound like a good fit for you...and that's okay!
You should be proud of yourself for exploring it!Most people sit on the sidelines and wonder but never do anything about it. You did, and now you know!Wondering why it's not a good fit? Not being a good fit for proofreading isn't a bad thing. It just means this isn't for you because of one or more of the reasons below. Now that you know, you can explore other side hustles! - Typos don't bother you. You need to have an eye for noticing mistakes. You don't need to be perfect at grammar and spelling (no one is!), but having a natural knack for seeing mistakes and then wanting to fix them are both huge parts of being an excellent proofreader.- Your focus is more on being the grammar police rather than using your grammar skills to help others. The terms grammar police and grammar snob are (unfortunately) worn as badges of honor for a lot of typo fixers and grammar aficionados. However, proofreading is all about helping writers look good, making them feel safe, and never judging them for their work. Kindness wins! After all, if everyone were perfect, there wouldn't be a need for proofreaders. Switching your outlook to using your smart, typo-finding eyeballs to support others could make all the difference for you!- Receiving feedback is extra tough. Even the most experienced proofreaders will get feedback from clients on what to improve or change. Therefore, being able to take feedback and implement it without becoming defensive or letting it discourage you is essential.- You want passive income (aka a "get rich quick doing nothing" business). Proofreading isn't a passive business. It involves providing a service (proofing!) for your clients, along with managing your business and keeping your skills up-to-date.
