8 Contact Form Questions to Start Building a Relationship with Customers

The humble contact form often gets overlooked as just a way for people to reach out. But it’s an important point in your relationship with a potential customer. If someone is reaching out, whether it’s for some help, with a question, or some feedback, it’s an opportunity to win someone over into your camp by providing an excellent experience.

The following is a list of contact form questions you can use in your Free Interact Form to get more people connecting with you and build relationships.

Contact Form Questions

  1. How can we help? This is the oldest and most profitable question in business. Simply asking someone how you can help them is a sure-fire way to build a connection and make the customer feel at ease. I always try to include some version of this question in my contact forms.
  2. What is your Name? Yes it’s the basic question, but you need something to call the person by when they reach out to you, right?
  3. What is on your mind? Another approach to the “How can I help?” question but with a little less impetus on the other person to figure out what they want. You can ask what they are thinking, and get ready for some hopefully long answers! those can be the absolute best place to learn about how your customers are thinking when they reach out to you.
  4. What is your email? The basic way you typically would respond to a contact us form.
  5. What is your phone number? People ask me if they should include this question on their contact form, and I say include it if you are going to call people, otherwise don’t include it just because you want the information for yourself or your records. People will drop off because they’re tired of spam calls.
  6. What brings you to our (website/social media) today? This is a great opportunity to ask people what they are trying to accomplish, which sets the tone for how you will reach out to them.
  7. How urgent is your request today? Not always a necessary question, but in some cases it’s helpful, and you can respond more rapidly if someone says their request is very urgent.
  8. How would you like us to respond? This is a great one for building trust. If someone just wants an email, great, a phone call, also great. Giving people the agency like this can go a long way in building up the connection that your contact form ideal provides.

How many questions should my contact form be?

The best answer is the shortest one. My recommendation is just name, email, and what can we help with? as a minimum, and then build from there for other information you absolutely need to gather. Don’t ask for any information you don’t need, as every additional form field will increase the drop-off on your form.

How should I write my contact form questions?

Write in your personal style. If you tend to be more casual, write the questions causally. If your brand is professional, write in a straightforward way. One thing to note, avoid letting AI write your questions because people are wary of AI-generated forms since they aren’t sure where the information will go. The way you write your contact form questions can either put people’s minds at ease and build rapport, or be neutral, or be weird. I’d opt for neutral if you’re worried about it.

How Long Should my Contact Form Questions Be?

Shorter is better, but make sure the intent isn’t missing. If you need more context in how someone answers your question, then make sure you ask the question in a way that prompts a longer response from them. But generally aim for shorter, ain’t nobody got time for reading long questions.
