What this article covers
Part 1: How to come up with your own quiz idea
The first step in creating your own personality quiz is to decide what to actually make the quiz about.
Using the interact quiz maker, we have over 200 quiz templates you can use and those templates are available for every industry so you can find one that matches your site.
Every template in our system is built using our best practices and designed to get the most traffic and leads for your business.
You can sort the templates by conversion rate and select the one that works the very best in your particular industry.
These templates are ready to use out-of-box but you can modify them completely as well.
If you want to create a custom personality quiz that's specific to your brand we've got you covered on that as well. Here's how to formulate your own quiz idea.
First, who is in your audience? define them with one or two words. For example, since you are reading this article about how to make a personality quiz, you are by very nature a content creator, so for me the audience is "Content Creators"
Second, insert your audience type into the template of "What Kind Of (Audience Type) Are You?" so for me it is "What Kind Of Content Creator Are You?"
You may have to change the format of the title for your audience, but the idea is "Which (Audience Type) Are You?"
Part 2: Designing your quiz to match your brand style
There are a full set of options for designing your quiz to match your site.
Part 3: Creating accurate personality outcomes
At the end of your quiz people who take it will be shown a personality as their result. You want this result to be accurate because people take quizzes seriously and assume that you'll be providing value to them when they see their outcome. **With personality quizzes you make the outcomes first**
Let's go through the steps for setting up quiz personalities that are accurate and leave your quiz takers feeling good.
Part 4: Writing your quiz questions
Advice on copywriting:
The questions are designed to help you figure out what someone's personality type is. The best way to make an engaging quiz is to know your audience and create questions that help you find out which personality they really are. Here are a few ways to make that easier.
1. Write to one person who would like your quiz. If you imagine writing to one person you'll avoid being overly generic, which no one likes in a quiz.
2. Follow the "tipsy rule" - when you're out for drinks with friends you probably ask questions in a much more straightforward manner, and the conversation is more engaging. Follow that same method in your quiz and people will love it.
3. Ask general questions with specific implecations. For example, if you ask someone "Where do you like to work?" and have general answers like "At a coffee shop" and "In my office" those are general but you can infer things about that person's personality based on which one they choose. If you need help coming up with questions, here's a list of quiz questions.
4. Don't overthink it. Quizzes are fun, and the best advice I can give you is to not overthink it because the more you get twisted up in your own mind the more your quiz will become generic and boring, just go with your initial feeling that always works best.
Part 5: Making the logic of your personality quiz
Here's how personality quiz logic works. Every question has multiple answer options you can choose from. Each answer option correlates to one or more of the quiz personality outcomes. As someone goes through your quiz they accumulate "+1's" for the different personalities, and whichever one has the most "+1's" after all the questions have been answered is the one that gets shown as the personality type for that person.
In order to make your quiz accurate, every question should have a correlation to every personality outcome. That way there is an equal number of total possible correlations to each personality, and the one you get is dependent entirely on how you answer the questions.
Part 6: Setting up your quiz to grow your email list
Personality quizzes done right have a 50% opt-in rate, meaning that half of the people who take your quiz will get on your email list.
The way it works is that once someone answers all the questions of your quiz they'll be presented with an opt-in form that will appear before their results are shown. Per GDPR compliance this opt-in form is optional to fill out.
If someone does fill out the form they'll be added to your list and you'll be able to follow up with specific information based on personality type they are.
In order to maximize opt-ins you want to make the copy on the form contextual to the quiz. So on my example to the right it says "Enter your email to see your content creator type" which is perfectly relevant to the title of the quiz.
Interact quiz maker integrates with all of the major email marketing and marketing automation systems. When someone opts in through your quiz you can put them on a specific sequence or list.
From that point forward you can send people emails that are specific to their personality.
Research shows that personalized emails are opened and clicked on 2.3 times more than generic ones.
Many interact customers have reported that their quizzes have delivered their lowest-cost and most effective lead generation results they've ever had.
Part 7: Promoting your quiz
There are two main ways to promote a personality quiz. The first is on your website and the second is on social media.
To add a quiz to your website you can use an iframe code to add it to any page or post, and interact has a wordpress plugin as well.
We recommend setting the quiz up as the main call to action on the home page of your website like the one pictured to the right.
The second way to promote a quiz is on Facebook as an ad or a post.
When you post the quiz you mainly copy the same headline and text from the quiz itself and then link to the page on your website where the quiz is embedded so that people will come to your website to take the quiz.
If you don't have a website you can use an interact-built landing page to link people to directly so they can take the quiz.
Quizzes tend to do very well on Facebook, and we have numerous examples of quizzes getting people their lowest cost lead generation ever using a Facebook ad and a quiz.
The example to the left here is from Marie Forleo, and this Facebook ad has 1.8k likes and 418 shares, if you want to check out Marie's quiz you can take it here.
