grab my phone, keys, purse, maybe some appropriate clothing, plus my beloved pet(s)--and get out.


grab my partner/bestie/roomie, make sure we have our pet(s) and essentials, and escape together.


round up all the people and pets in the house, herd them outside, and stay together to make sure we remain safe.


jump into my shoes, get everybody out, and start pounding on nearby doors to alert others.


grab my purse, emergency kit, and phone, hit speed dial to call 911, escort everyone outside, and count heads to see who might be missing.

Two cars have just collided ahead. Traffic is stopped, and other drivers are getting out to help. I would:

feel grateful that I am okay, turn on some calming music, and stay in the car.


call 911, and decide which one of us (my partner/buddy or me) will remain in the car while the other goes to help.


pull out my bag of snacks, and load up a video to keep my passengers calm and distracted. 


make sure my passengers are safe, then head out to offer first aid and emotional support to those involved in the accident.  


pull off to the side of the road to make room for emergency vehicles, call 911 while signaling others to pull over, then grab my first aid kit and help those injured.

I notice that the person sitting at the next table in a restaurant begins choking. He's turning purple. I would:

jump up and yell, "Help! He's choking!" 


tell my partner to begin doing the Heimlich maneuver while I call 911 (or vice versa). 


call 911, assure my loved ones that they are safe, and then see what I can do to help those who are assisting the choking man. 


call 911, ask the crowd if there is someone who can administer the Heimlich maneuver, and then comfort the choking man's partner, guiding her away from the scene while others assist him.


shout, "Call 911!" as I administer the Heimlich maneuver. I quickly dislodge the piece of food that was choking the man, and stay with him, speaking in a soothing voice so that both he and his partner remain calm.

I think of myself as:

an independent woman with a big heart. I care about others, but know I need to look out for myself first.


part of a strong partnership. The two of us can handle anything together.


the backbone of my [chosen] family. I organize our outings, make sure we celebrate everyone's birthday, and always check in on those who are ill or in need of comfort.
