What type of period products will best protect you when your moon flow hits High Tide?

Menstruation is a beautiful journey of sensuality, discovery, and self-realization – but it also comes with some monthly maintenance. Take this fun and easy quiz to find out what you need to navigate your menses with ease.

Take the Quiz

You wake up and you know, you just know, today is the day. Aunt Flow is here. Are you ready?

This isn't your first rodeo. You've gone to the store and fully stocked up on pads, panties, and a plethora of tampons, ready for whatever mood She comes with.

You're good. Or wait… did you use your last emergency purse stash last month? If only there was a service you could subscribe to so you weren’t left hanging like a string on a monthly basis.

You can always send your honey out for a supply run, but it's sometimes interesting what he comes back with.

Pretty sure you remember seeing a loose tampon in your makeup bag… Why didn’t you grab something last time you were on a snack run?

1 / 9

How squeamish would you say you are when it comes to getting your hands dirty?

That's what bidets and wipes are for, right?

I'm used to the laundry that comes with bleeding. Bring it on!

No worries here! I believe in the power of modern soap to clean up most messes so I'm ready to dive in and get my hands dirty.

I like things as clean and simple as possible. Fast, disposable solutions are my favorite.

2 / 9

Which movie most looks like your monthly routine?

Pretty Woman. Lavish bubbles, surrounded by snacks, grooving to prince.

Eat, Pray, Love. Shoveling food in and struggling to do up my pants.

Carrie. I just wait for the horror to end.

Groundhog Day. I barely notice a change to my routine, other than longer bathroom breaks to take care of business.

3 / 9

On average, how much do you think you spend every month on your period, including Uber Eats and impulse online shopping?

I can't help it that my uterus has access to my credit card!

I watch my budget closely, so I stick to the necessities.

I'm not afraid to invest in quality, especially if it can help the environment.

I like to splurge a little, sometimes, but nothing too crazy.

4 / 9

What’s your period anthem?

“Eat it” by Weird Al Yankovic. “Have a big dinner, eat a light snack, if you don't like it, you can't take it back, so eat it. Just eat it.” It's enough to make you bulge out of your period panties!

“Heal the world” by Michael Jackson. “Make a better place for you and for me.” We make a better world by caring for the environment around us.

“The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars. “Today I don’t feel like doing anything, I just wanna lay in my bed” I definitely don’t have time for more period laundry!

“Beat Up On Yo’ Pads” by Snoop Dogg “Beat up on yo’ pads, come on lill homie go on beat up on yo pads.” Especially on day 1, I feel bad for the job I ask my pads to do.

5 / 9

How happy and content are you with your current feminine hygiene products?

I've been pretty loyal to the brand of tampons my mom got me started on, but I'd be interested to try something new. What are those organic tampons all about?

I’ve been using tampons for years, but I feel a bit sad with how much garbage is involved. Is there a better way that offers the same range of motion and discretion as tampons?

I’ve used pads ever since my first period, but feel like they keep shifting around. I don’t want to have something inside my body, either, what would you suggest?

I don’t want to use tampons and menstrual cups kinda freak me out, and the laundry that comes with period panties is kinda intense, so I guess it’s a good thing I’m happy with my Always!

6 / 9

What's most important to you when you're looking for a period product?

Discrete portability and easy disposal!

Environmentally friendly, but also able to perform when I’m active and can’t stop to change it frequently.

I like a quick and disposable solution, but I’ve never found tampons comfortable.

I don’t mind sitting in my own flow, but I’m so tired of crinkly packaging and waste.

7 / 9

Which 3 words would best describe your needs when it comes to your period products?

Intuitive, wearable, washable

Convenient, discrete, tidy

Durable, environmental, longwearing

Non-invasive, portable, disposable

8 / 9

Which quote sounds most like your flow maintenance strategy?

“Underwear is everything because we all know that if we have on the wrong pair of underwear it ruins your day.” – Veronica Webb

“I have no problems with buying tampons. I am a fairly modern man. But apparently they're not a "proper" present. "Happy birthday, mum!" – Jimmy Carr

“You can send women to the moon or Mars later. First, provide sanitary pads to them.” – Arunachalam Muruganantham

“For you the cup isn't half full or half empty, you're always topping it up.” ― Rowena Cory Daniells

You should get a box of tampons!

A small, discreet, disposable solution that fits in your pocket, tampons have been around since the 1930s, and they aren’t going anywhere any time soon!

But there are so many different choices when you reach for a box that it can be overwhelming when you’re standing in the store under the harsh fluorescent lights with a pint of Ben & Jerrys and a familiar, bloated discomfort in your lower back.

Do you stick with the super absorbent ones with the discrete packaging that your mom has always? Or do you try the brightly packaged, super popular brand that you see advertised everywhere? And isn’t there some buzz about Toxic Shock Syndrome that you should be worried about?

There’s so much taboo around the topic of women’s health that there’s an embarrassing and dangerous lack of information when it comes to what you put inside your body, for hours at a time, every month until menopause, and it’s time to lift the shroud of mystery and shine a light on what’s really inside your tampons.

What to know about your tampons:

1. Organic isn’t just for vegetables.

While it’s nice to know that the cotton used in your tampons was raised without the use of toxic pesticides, what’s more important is that the cotton wasn’t then mixed with rayon that was beached and treated with chemicals and fragrance.

The dioxin used in the bleaching process of cheaper, synthetic blend tampons has been linked to a myriad of women’s health issues, and women have become understandably shy of them in recent years.

2. Think Green

Non-organic tampons often come with a plastic applicator, and phthalates in those aren’t so great for your luscious lady or the environment.

On average, women use 71,000 tampons over the course of their reproductive years. That’s 70k tampons and applicators being thrown into landfills. Biodegradable applicators can break down and be of use to the environment, but used tampons should never be added to compost because they can pose a health risk and spread disease. Mother Nature is a lady, and she can use all the help you can give.

3. Toxic Shock Syndrome Is No Joke

Your Flow is supposed to flow, and the side effect of holding back that torrent is a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. The directions on the box are there for a reason, and should be followed closely. Leaving a tampon in too long, or depending on a Super Absorbent to ebb the heavy tide, can leave you at risk of the scary sounding Toxic Shock Syndrome.

Not sure how you’re going to find tampons that use organic, unbleached cotton, don’t use plastic non-biodegradable packaging, and won’t leave you at risk of dangerous bacteria overload?

Look no further! We’ve created Flow Free, a tampon free of harmful chemicals and pesky plastics, designed to be as discrete and comfortable as possible, so you have one less thing to worry about.

“Women's clutches are too small. I open my purse, and with some hydraulic force, a tampon shoots 12 feet into the air.”

— Kelly Ripa

Nurture Your Moon Time

Periods suck, no doubt about it, but they don’t have to do it to epic Cthullian proportions, so next time your Lunar Time rolls around, refer to these tips for a less painful, more restful Shark Week.

How to Care for Yourself When Your Uterus has a Yard Sale

1. Stock Up

Auto subscribe to our Monthlies, a box for your box, stuffed full of everything you need to chill in style while your body cleans out the nursery.

And we’re not just talking period products. You’re gonna want snacks, hot water bottles, and a decent selection of Rom Coms.

Try to avoid snacks that are high in caffeine because it will dehydrate you and make any cramps even more painful. Instead, reach for the trail mixes, like our Womb Nuts, high in magnesium rich almonds, cashews, and pistachios, (and a few craisins) to help with inflammation and calm your nerves.

Or fill your favourite mug with a Raspberry Leaf Tea like our Moon Malady Brew to ease your raging baby maker.

2. Soak About It

Taking a long, luxurious bath, and let the stresses of the world ease out of you – along with the inflammation of your angry lady parts.

This is a great time to listen to calming music and indulge in some Dark Chocolate, an excellent source of fibre, iron, magnesium, copper and manganese → basically a little healing bonbon that feels like a decadent treat. Every month of our Monthlies comes with a specially picked Dark Chocolate surprise.

Try our Muscle Melt Bath Bomb, made with magnesium rich epsom salts, and a fragrant bouquet of organically grown Rosemary, Sweet Birch, and Roman Chamomile.

3. Ride The Wave

A woman’s cycle keeps her in tune with her body, and can often bring up strong emotions, too.

Let any tears come, learn to channel any anger or frustration into healthy avenues like cleaning or archery practice, and allow yourself to just chill and be.

Especially on the first day of your period, it’s important to let yourself rest, so don’t plan any hiking excursions or marathons, and instead schedule a duvet day, just you, some snacks, and good ol’ Netflix.

Most importantly, honor your body’s natural cycles and go with the flow. And pay attention, your cycle can tell you some very important things about your health, from where your diet is lacking to more serious lady health issues.

Is It That Time Of The Month Again?

Hey there, Bleeding Beauty! I'm Rouge Sangriel, holistic practitioner, womb warrior, and fellow menstruator, owner of Monthlies, a subscription service designed to take the guesswork out of weathering the Crimson Tide.

I did the math and figured that if the average woman menstruates regularly from 13-50, that’s 444 cycles, and if they average about a week per cycle, that’s 8 ½ YEARS of bleeding.

And I thought if I could do anything to make that time easier, I would.

So I took my knowledge as a holistic wellness practitioner and blended it with my experience as a proud bleeding woman, and came up with Monthlies, the company that ships you everything you need, so you don’t have to spend years of your life thinking about it.

You should get a menstrual cup!

Made of surgical grade silicone, small and discrete, a menstrual cup is an effective and environmentally friendly alternative to disposable period products. Just don’t mind the mess.

And they’re affordable! Once you get past the initial investment, you’ll be laughing all the way to the bank.

You don’t have to worry about whether you can flush a menstrual cup, and you won’t feel the bulk of a pad crowding your underwear, but you will have to get your hands dirty to use one.

There’s a slight learning curve when you first start using a cup, but once you master the fold and tuck, your period will be a breeze!

No pesky strings will peak out from your yellow polka-dot bikini, no ma’am, and you won’t be left wondering where to dispose of your used pads and tampons. And menstrual cups are reusable! Just think of all the tampons and pads you’ll be saving from the landfill!

But there are some important things to know before you invest in your first menstrual cup.

1. They need to be cleaned regularly.

And a quick swish under the hot water tap won’t do it.

You’re going to want to boil iron the stove for several minutes to disinfect it, otherwise it can turn into a breeding ground for bacteria. And you don’t want that in your Self-cleaning Easy Bake oven!

That doesn’t mean you have to boil it every time you take it out. Just wiping it out with toilet paper, or rinsing it with a non-fragrant soap in the sink is enough to keep it fresh through your cycle, but when it’s time to pack it away for next month, give it the spa treatment on the stove first.

2. They don’t last forever.

Alas, nothing is that good. So check the expiration on the product you use, and make sure you buy a new one when it’s time.

Even silicone breaks down over time, and the more porous it becomes, the more likely it is to harbor harmful bacteria.

3. They’re messy.

Unlike tampons, with their nifty little string that makes removal oh so easy, a menstrual cup requires a bit more hands-on approach.

So while the 12 hour wear time can make you feel like you’re barely bleeding, you’re gonna wanna make sure you’ve got running water for clean-up.

Worried you’ll make the wrong decision when it’s time to pick your menstrual cup?

Worry no longer! We’ve created an assessment quiz to help you pick the right fit for you, with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

We’re so confident we’ll find the right fit for your flow, that if you don’t feel protected, comfortable, and able to go about your busy life, we’ll refund your money or send you a new Perfect Cup to try.

You should get some period panties!

For those who don't love the idea of inserting their period protection, wearable period panties are an excellent alternative! They're way cuter than their earlier ancestors, and they effectively capture your moon flow.

There are more and more options available for those looking for a wearable alternative to tampons, and a more environmentally friendly option than pads.

Sure, there's more laundry involved, but some women's health practitioners believe it helps to connect you better to your monthly time, and keeps you more in touch with your flow, which can tell you volumes about your uterine health.

A bit bulkier than normal underwear, period panties come in a variety to suit your needs, whether you're in day 1 tsunami zone, or day 4 light spotting, you can feel comfortable knowing you're protected from embarrassing leaks.

Some things you should know about period panties before you splurge:

1. They're not super discreet.

Because they're bulkier and are meant to protect you from your heavy flow days, you're going to see some panty lines and feel some slight constriction.

A tight seal is needed to keep your flow from running away from you, and all over your cute outfit.

2. They require some cleaning.

Not always the best option when quick convenience is needed, period panties need to be washed and completely dried before they can be used again.

Some Users say they like to wear them into the shower and clean them while they're in there. Others like to leave them all in a mesh washing bag until they're ready to throw them in the wash.

No matter how you like to do it, washing in cold water and hanging to dry is the best way to go, so skip the hot dryer if you want them to last.

3. They’re unfashionable.

No doubt, it’s hard to feel sexy when you’re wearing bulky granny panties.

Which is why we’ve put our heads together to design cute panties that fit your style – and your budget. Check out our selection of cute and comfy UnderRoos to find your favorite pair! We even have Day Of The Week multi-packs so you can coordinate your Sassy Sundays and Thirsty Thursdays.

You should get some pads!

The perfectly convenient, on-the-go option for the lady on the move who doesn’t want to wear their period solutions internally.

We’ve come a long way since pads required a belt and their own postal code.

With wings or without, with odor control or au natural, the options are seemingly endless.

From thick pads that can handle the heaviest flow days, to teensy panty liners that fit in your briefest thongs, pads are a quick and easy grab and go option.

What to know when you’re thinking about buying pads:

1. Natural is best.

Just like with tampons, there’s a concern about the dioxin used in the bleaching process of rayon and what it means for women’s health.

Your local health food store should have plenty of natural, organic, unbleached options – for a few dollars more.

2. Not as clean feeling as tampons.

The unavoidable reality of periods is that if you aren’t holding in the flow, the flow is gonna go where it’s gonna go.

That means you’re left sitting in your own blood, and that can be a little off putting for some.

One thing you can do to help is use a bidet or carry moist wipes with you to help with the crime scene clean up.

3. Environmental toll.

According to stats, 57+ million women in the US use disposable pads for their menstrual needs.

That’s a pretty incredible amount when you think about them being wadded up and disposed into our landfills.

If you want a more environmentally friendly option, there are a ton of washable and reusable options available if you’re willing to take the time to clean them after every cycle.

Not every day has the same needs, so we’ve put together a Perfect Pad Pack that has you covered from your heaviest, overnight flow to your lightest pantyliner days, and everything in between.

All our pads are natural and organic, made without the use of dioxin bleach, with packaging that is discrete and biodegradable.

“We live in a world where it is easy and comfortable to wear pads, but miserable to talk about it.”
